The chicken has the characteristics like fast growth rate, short feeding period, high profits. Thus how to raise small baby chicken becomes more and more important.
1. Do not raise chicks separately, raise them together. The death rate of raising baby chicken separately is much higher than raising them together.
2. About the warmth. The chick is small with short fur, thus the thermal insulation ability is low, their self-adjustment for warmth is not as well as adult chicken. About 3 or 4 weeks later their ability for getting warmth is gradually being improved. Thus the key point for improving survival rate of chick is how to adjust temperature and humidity. The suitable temperature for chick is about 30-32℃. Then to lower 1 to 2℃every 5 days. After 1 month later if the out temperature is above 20℃, then stop heating, otherwise keep heating. You can put a flock of chickens in a carton or wooden box with hay , cotton or hot pad.
3. About the humidity. If the brood chamber is too dry, the moisture in the chicken body becomes too low. It is bad for the growth of the chicken. If the brood room is to humid, the air does not circulate, it is easy for the chicken to catch the flu. The regulation method is that to keep there is always water in the chicken drinker. When in rainy season add some dry mat in the cartons and clean these mats in time.
4. About the chicken feed. Before feeding the chicks, drink them first with 0.01-0.02% potassium permanganate solution, then drink them with 8% sucrose water. Which can sterilize the chicken’s gastric. Then feed them. Keep one point in your mind: always make sure there is water in the chicken drinker, especially warm water.
5. Keep the chick in the sun once each day. The sunshine warms the chicks, makes them eat more then have a good digestion. The sunshine keeps the chicken have a normal development.
